The residency programs at Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center, Atrium Health Union and Carolinas Rehabilitation offer a strong, diverse and reputable academic center in Charlotte, NC, a region that enjoys an attractive climate and lifestyle.

Residencies at Carolinas Medical Center range from three to seven-year programs and accept between one and fourteen residents each year. Applications for all medical programs are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and all participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has recognized 11 residencies at Carolinas Medical Center in various specialties across the entire continuum of care.

Applications for the Dental programs are accepted through both the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) and the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program (MATCH). They are accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).

The Neurological Surgery Residency program is a subspecialty-based program designed to train skilled and compassionate neurological surgeons who aspire to assume national leadership roles in clinical innovation, medical education and neuroscience research. Approximately 3,500 operative neurosurgical procedures are performed each year at Atrium Health (an additional 1,200 neurosurgical cases are performed at the adjacent Carolinas Center for Specialty Surgery). Cutting-edge clinical and surgical facilities include intraoperative imaging and newly built and recently opened neurocritical care units, inpatient neurosurgery ward, neurosurgery clinics and a pediatric surgery specialty ward. Our accomplished neurosurgery faculty has been featured in both local and national media.

Our residents become fully immersed in our OB/GYN program’s mission, personality and spirit. Through comprehensive opportunities throughout the program, residents will prepare to enter their general obstetrics and gynecology practice or pursue further training in a subspecialty fellowship. These subspecialties are represented by the faculty members, including maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Our orthopedic surgery residents train in a robust academic environment supported by one of the nation's largest public hospital systems. Located at both Carolinas Medical Center and OrthoCarolina, the program's educational philosophy stresses that the best environment for learning clinical medicine is achieved with one patient, one attending and one resident. Residents will experience a large clinical volume, participating in 300-500 cases during each clinical year. Graduated responsibility in the operating room and pre- and post-operative planning phases is granted so at the end of the program each resident is comfortable and competent in all subspecialty areas.

Our fully ACGME-accredited 3-year pediatric residency training program has a high patient volume, acuity and diversity without fellows. Based at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (LCH), the faculty provides our pediatric residents with in-depth training in general pediatrics as well as multiple subspecialties, all in a child-friendly, child-focused, family-centered atmosphere. We also have years of fellowship match success, a 100% board pass rate and happy, hardworking residents.

The Urologic Surgery Residency Training program is part of one of the largest independent academic centers in the country that trains more than 320 residents and fellows each year. We are dedicated to providing a diverse experience in both the clinical and surgical management of all conditions in urology as well as exposure to research methods and opportunities. Our primary goal is to train residents to be great general urologists, preparing them to enter either private practice or academic careers.
