Inpatient pediatric rehabilitation


If your child or teen has suffered a life-altering injury or they're limited by a neurological condition, they may be in need of pediatric rehabilitation care. Children who may qualify for pediatric rehabilitation services include those with:

  • Acute neurological conditions
  • Amputations
  • Brain or spinal cord injuries
  • Chemotherapy or other cancer-related treatments
  • Orthopedic injuries
  • Recent heart surgery or other operations

Levine Children's Hospital provides complete inpatient rehabilitation care for your child. At our pediatric rehabilitation pavilion, your child gets:

  • Close medical supervision by a specialized pediatric rehabilitation physician, and coordinated care from a large pediatric rehabilitation care team
  • Around-the-clock rehabilitation nursing care
  • Minimum of 15 hours of weekly intensive rehabilitation care in a variety of specialties, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, recreational therapy and cognitive education
  • Large therapy gym with an anti-gravity treadmill, functional electrical stimulation for the upper and lower extremities, treadmill and other cardiovascular equipment, parallel bars and a tilt table
  • Therapeutic playroom for younger children, used to present therapy as play
  • Teen room for older children and teenagers where treatment options such as video games and air hockey are used to reach rehabilitation goals
  • Cheerful classroom used for testing and education
  • Dining room for speech/swallow treatment and ADL (activities of daily life) re-training
  • Treatment room incorporating interactive technology to address sensory stimulation, vision, coordination and communication
  • Ceiling gait track system that allows patients to walk and perform high-level balance and coordination activities without the fear of falling

Outpatient pediatric rehabilitation

When your child needs outpatient rehabilitation, we are here to help your child improve in their daily life. Our pediatric physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan for children from birth to 17 years of age.
